Sam Fender has donated the full amount of his £25,000 honor winnings to the MVT, which functions to save the UK's grassroots concert spaces.

Fender was awarded the cheque on 16 October as his third album the album was chosen as the top album of the previous year.

He has opted to donate the funds to the trust, in recognition of the crucial part grassroots venues played in his initial steps.

"I personally couldn't be pursuing this success if it wasn't for all the gigs I performed around the area, and further afield, when I was starting out," said Fender. "These locations are iconic, but they are facing challenges."

Since the start of 2023, at least 150 of these venues have ceased operations – roughly 16% of the total UK scene.

Recently, top acts including Pulp, the group Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all backed the Music Venues Trust in its initiatives to help venues survive, by applying a small levy to their admission fees, which goes to help smaller concert halls.

Fender also participated, raising in excess of £100,000 on his 2024 arena tour to help 38 local spots across Britain.

The money supported locations that were confronting potential shutdown due to difficulties caused by flooding, fires and personal losses, as well as permit problems, legal disputes and sound issues.

Some locations obtained funding support in modernizing facilities and gear that helped musicians and audiences.

"The idea that money from shows in big venues backs the independent spots, where it kicks off for performers like me, is just common sense," the star has said.

In 2002, artist the artist shared her prize between several charities, like the children's charity and a charity for Sickle Cell.

"And I donated a £1,000 to Highgate Newtown, to their gymnastics program, because I practiced gymnastics when I was growing up and they lacked updated gear," Ms Dynamite explained to the media.

Previously, Ezra Collective gave their funds to the youth organization that developed their band, alongside other grassroots music organisations.

Also the 1994 recipients the group contributed their winnings to a multiple sclerosis charity after a close contact was found to have the illness.

"The victory was quite enough," said singer Heather Small. "The money was the bonus but we didn't require the cherry, because we had the honor. So our success impacted another person's life."

In the past week, the MVT shared it had protected two local spots in south-east England, by placing them under local control.

The first in the city and The Croft in the city were purchased under the community ownership initiative, which is backed by Arts Council England and supporters who purchase "stakes" in the venues.
