Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Fighters Group

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of personalities, and a gripping narrative including divine entities, evil spirits, and malevolent powers growing in strength within the city.

Heads-up: Revealing details for the latest installment of Campaign 4 follow below.

The Warrior Group Introduced

Episode 3 finished on a dramatic pause and introduced the initial group of characters who will separate from the primary party to begin their own adventure, distinct from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table features Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).

Why Split the Party?

Given 13 cast members, it was evident from the start that maintaining everyone at one table would be unworkable.

This explains, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Overture, intertwining the individual narratives before branching into three separate parties: Soldiers, Strategists, and Seekers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

According to the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for adventurers who are drawn to a traditionally charged battle-oriented narrative style where non-violent answers are few and far between.

Initially, figures such as the reluctant priest the cleric might seem unsuited, but the events of the third episode show why these five characters are perfectly fit for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

First, the party has a clear idea where to go next after a brutal initial meeting with the antagonists.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose death kicked off the campaign’s events—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, entering the secret base, striking the rogue, and swiping all the magical artifacts to dispose of.

Casimir then paid off his debts and escaped to a secure base in the remote area, north of the urban center, with Teor’s brother close behind.

Character Drivers

Moreover, each adventurer has a specific drive to depart the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, desires revenge.
  • Kattigan has experience in the region and advises that it is a hostile place.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having resisted his relatives’ demands to execute the fighter and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their reputation as prominent individuals in the influential clan could enable the team access locations they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, Teor pledged a life debt to The cleric for his deliverance and will now accompany him anywhere.

Fugitives

Finally, all of them are wanted by the powers that control the city for a multiple motives, making remaining behind too risky:

  • The agile adventurer and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and The healer betrayed House Halovar and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
  • Teor is targeted for elimination by the clan.

This results in them little choice but to travel to the remote area in search of Casimir.

Future Episodes

From the recent installment’s Cooldown, we discover that the Soldiers table will be absent the following episode, leaving the rest of the participants to round up the Explorers and Planners groups.

Audiences can expect learning which players will be in which group in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, released on October 24.
